Not all dogs benefit from being clipped or shaved. In fact, for many breeds—especially those with double coats—doing so can cause long-term harm. 

Why You Should Not Clip or Shave Double-Coated Dogs Double-coated breeds have two layers:

Guard hairs (outer coat): Repel dirt and moisture, reflect sunlight.

Undercoat: Insulates against heat and cold.

Shaving or clipping disrupts this natural system and can lead to:

Overheating: The coat helps temperature by trapping cool air.

Sunburn & skin damage: Without the outer coat, skin is exposed to UV rays.

Permanent coat damage: The undercoat often grows back faster, creating a patchy, woolly texture.

Increased shedding: Shaving doesn’t reduce shedding—it can make it worse.

Behavioral stress: Some dogs feel vulnerable or anxious after being shaved.

Otherwise, opt for:

Regular brushing

Coat-specific shampoos

Targeted trimming (e.g., paws, sanitary areas)
